Kirkdale Estate is a stunning coastal estate with views stretching far out over Wigtown Bay and the Solway Firth in an area of outstanding natural beauty. Home to the Hannay family for over 500 years, the centrepiece of which is a Robert Adam Georgian mansion. Two coastal properties with uninterrupted sea views are becoming available for holiday letting for the first time in 2009/2010. Guests may visit the nature trail of Kirkdale Glen, one of Scotland"s only working water powered saw-mills and the famous Chambered Cairns at Cairnholy.
The Estate is situated 5 miles west of the attractive town of Gatehouse of Fleet and is a perfect base for exploring all that the area has to offer. Gatehouse has a small supermarket open 7 days and there are a number of excellent pubs and hotels in the town. In addition, Tesco will deliver directly to the properties. Kirkcudbright Artists" Town and Castle Douglas Food Town, with a further choice of poular restaurants and cafes, are both within 20 mins drive.
Several superb sandy beaches are only a short drive away. Guests are welcome to use the golden sandy beaches at the private Cardoness Estate only 2 miles away. In addition the sandy beaches at Mossyard and Sandgreen are very close by. For sailors, the waters around Cardoness, Sandgreen and Carrick are ideal. At nearby Loch Ken there is a marina with a water ski school and a sailing centre with instruction and boat, canoe and windsurfer hire.
A huge choice of activities are on your doorstep including walking, mountain biking, fishing, horse riding, archery, clay pigeon shooting and tennis. Several golf courses are within easy reach and Kirroughtree, part of the 7Stanes mountain bike network with 70 kilometres of trails, forest walks and a cafe, is within a fifteen minute drive of the cottage. Cream o" Galloway, the organic ice-cream farm and cafe, with bike trails, nature trails and its popular children"s indoor and outdoor play area is only ten minutes away
Kirkdale Bank has just been completely renovated and upgraded to provide very comfortable high quality self catering accommodation. The cottage has a fully enclosed south facing garden looking out to sea. A further large garden is open to the side and rear. The sitting room, kitchen, master bedroom and twin bedroom are all south facing and command panoramic sea views. There is a wood burning stove in the eating kitchen and a real fire in the sitting room. The dining table in the sitting room can seat up to 10.
