Castle Douglas, Scotland"s Food Town, is a thriving market town with some excellent local shopping facilities and a number of pubs, hotels and restaurants. The town is an ideal centre for exploring the wider area with the Solway Coast with its sandy beaches and rocky coves and the well known holiday villages of Kippford and Rockcliffe all within a half hour drive of the cottage. In the other direction there is wonderful hill country with superb walking and cycling with sections of the 7Stanes mountain bike network within easy access.
Loch Ken, approximately 20 mins from the cottage, has both a sailing centre with sailing, windsurfing and canoeing instruction, boats and equipment for hire plus outdoor adventure facilities and a marina with water ski instruction. Fishing of all types is available in season and the area boasts some excellent golf courses including the championship links course at Southerness.
